The design for this Samarkand runner was taken from the oldest known rug, the Pazyryk rug, which is preserved in the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg. The design comprises winged lions on the outer border and warriors riding horses on the main border, and snowflake-like designs are used in the middle.

These beautiful pieces are new, appearing on the market around 2017. These wool rugs and carpets have a certain design, similar to Kazak pieces. However, that is where the similarity ends. The rugs mostly have bobbin wound fringes, which are brightly coloured, and they do not have any borders. Instead, the old Caucasian design is mixed into bands or stripes of bright colours. Our Afghan rugs are handmade using wool on a cotton foundation. The wool used is taken from the native . It is very tough and has a high natural oil content.

The final carpet stage in Pakistan involves many processes. Initial tensioning and correcting weft alignments and errors may be undertaken, followed by surface clipping, herbal washing, and .
